Supporting Independent Artists: Why Buying Original Animal Art Matters

A Life Devoted to Art and Animals

From a very early age, I felt a strong, almost uncontrollable urge to draw. Everything around me became a subject: plants, furniture, fantasy shapes — anything I could capture with pencil or paint. As I grew older, my focus shifted. I became obsessed with the underwater world, drawing all types of fish, molluscs, and coral reefs. Later, I turned to people. But my path took a defining turn toward animal art when I began offering custom pet portraits. That’s when I truly found my calling.

Animals have always been my passion. I believe we’re incredibly lucky to share our lives with pets. I genuinely love every dog and cat I meet, and I often find myself talking to the animals I paint — they feel present with me, as though they are looking straight into my soul. Painting them is not just a technical process. It’s a heartfelt connection. To me, animals represent truth, kindness, love, and beauty.

Why Independent Artists Need You

There are countless gifted artists in the world, but only a small percentage are able to make a living from their talent. Today, it’s not enough to paint beautifully and with soul. You must also be trendy, visible, and often — connected. Breaking into the art world can be disheartening. You need to spend endless hours applying to galleries, chasing opportunities, and being constantly active on social media. Rejections are common — not because the art lacks quality, but because it’s not “modern” enough or “on trend.”

This is why supporting independent artists is more important than ever. Many talented creators — including those offering original animal artwork — struggle to be seen in a world where big brands and algorithms dominate. It may take a bit more effort to look beyond the first page of Google, but when you do, you’ll find passionate artists pouring their hearts into every piece, hoping to connect with those who value authenticity. And when you buy directly from the artist, you’re not paying extra for third-party platforms or galleries — the price is fair, and more of your support goes straight to the person who created the art.

The Creative Process: A Personal Journey

While I’ve been a professional pet artist for years, I’ve always longed to paint for myself. Commissions are lovely —  but they don’t always allow for artistic freedom. With personal work, I can simply let go and explore.

I always work from reference photos, but everything is drawn freehand. That’s what makes it my art — my perception, my flow. It’s not about achieving millimetre-perfect realism, but about creating something soulful and visually striking.

I work in various mediums — pastels and oils are my favourites, though I also use acrylics. Watercolour is something I’d love to explore more deeply in the future. Whatever the medium, I use only the highest quality, professional-grade materials to ensure that every piece is lasting and vibrant.

Why Pet Portraits and Wildlife Paintings Make a Difference

Having a portrait of a beloved pet on your wall is such a beautiful way to celebrate their presence in your life. Pets bring us joy, companionship, and unconditional love — why wouldn’t we honour them with art?

Similarly, wildlife paintings can infuse a space with the spirit of nature. They create a sense of calm, inspiration, and even adventure. Original animal artwork has the power to transform a home, making it feel warmer, more personal, and more alive.

Why It’s Vital to Support Handmade, Original Art

In a world where digital content dominates, buying from an independent artist helps keep traditional craftsmanship alive. It supports a real person, not a corporation. It preserves the human connection behind every brushstroke and helps ensure that art remains a part of our culture, not just our screen time.

Supporting small creative businesses also contributes to a more diverse and colourful world. It means that artists can continue doing what they love, and that you — the collector — get to own something truly unique.

How to Support Independent Artists

Supporting artists doesn’t always mean buying a painting. Here are a few simple ways you can make a real difference:

  • Share their work on social media

  • Leave a positive review

  • Sign up for their newsletter

  • Buy a print, a card, or even a small original

  • Recommend them to friends and family

Every little bit helps an artist feel seen and valued.

My Style and What I Offer

My work is best described as fine art realism — though I never aim for photorealism. I love it when art looks like art — full of life, colour, and that beautiful handmade touch. I embrace imperfections and love large-scale compositions that make an impact.

I offer:

  • Cat art

  • Dog art

  • Wildlife paintings

  • Custom pet portraits

All created with love, care, and the highest-quality materials.

One day, I hope to work in a larger studio where I can truly explore bigger, bolder pieces. Until then, I pour everything I have into every painting I create.

When you buy original animal artwork from an independent artist, you’re doing more than decorating your home — you’re bringing soul into your space and supporting someone’s lifelong passion.
